What To Do If A Leak Occurs

Your first concern should be for your personal safety and the safety of those around you.

If you cause or discover a pipeline leak you should:

        1. IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF and abandon any machinery/equipment you may be operating. Avoid creating sparks or sources of heat that could cause the vapors or liquid to ignite.

        2. AVOID creating sparks or heat sources that could ignite the vapors or liquids. DO NOT light a match, start an engine, use a telephone or even turn on/off an electric light in the vicinity of escaping liquids or vapors.

        3. LEAVE the area at once to a safe upwind location avoiding any escaping liquids or vapors.

        4. WARN others if necessary.

        5. DO NOT drive into or near a leak area or vapor cloud. If your automobile stalls, DO NOT attempt to restart it as this may ignite liquids or vapors in the area. Instead, ABANDON the vehicle and leave to a safe upwind location.

        6. CONTACT the local emergency response agency for assistance.

        7. NOTIFY the pipeline owner or operator, and give your name and phone number, description of the leak, and location. For our pipeline, call our 24-Hour Emergency Telephone Number. Dixie Pipeline will take appropriate actions to protect the public and environment.
